The Author
Jack Nook was born and raised in a coastal town in West Cumbria, in the north of England. Coming from a family with strong roots in music, poetry, and the performing arts, Jack naturally gravitated toward storytelling—eventually finding his voice in the world of cozy mysteries.
With a background that includes failed song writing, developing reports, process development, and years of light-hearted commentary on a self-run Fantasy Football League, Jack’s journey into fiction was a gradual but inevitable one.
Jack is also an avid reader of books, exploring most niches but particularly enjoying Mystery, Suspense, Thrillers and Crime.
Working as an independent author, Jack carries out all the below himself:

Jack is currently working on a growing collection of standalone cozy mysteries, all set in the seemingly charming, fictional seaside town of Seacliff Harbour. Still based in West Cumbria, Jack draws a lot of inspiration from his home town and also the nearby Lake District, the coastal landscape and the peaceful sounds of his own garden pond as he continues to write and create.

THE DOG EARED CHAPTER BOOKSHOP
A warm, welcoming bookshop at the centre of Seacliff life, where readers browse, friends gather, and secrets have a habit of surfacing.
With shelves packed full of stories and Buddy keeping a watchful eye by the door, The Dog-Eared Chapter has become as much a meeting place as it is a bookshop.
Nestled between rolling, emerald-green hills and a rugged, windswept coastline, Seacliff Harbour is the kind of town that feels suspended in time. Cottages with weathered stone walls and pastel shutters line narrow, winding lanes that slope gently down to the harbour’s crescent of shingle beach.
At the heart of Seacliff, the harbour is where fishing boats bob against the quay, friends stop to chat, and the sea is never far from view. Above it all, the lighthouse stands on the cliffs, a familiar landmark for locals and visitors alike, watching over a town where peaceful walks, friendly faces and the occasional mystery are all part of everyday life.
The heart of the town is its bustling square, surrounded by a jumble of independent shops, a cozy bakery, and a centuries-old pub warmed by an ever-crackling fire. Locals greet each other by name, and news travels fast—usually accompanied by laughter or the clatter of tea cups in the sea-facing cafés.
THE GULL’S NEST CAFE
The Gull’s Nest Café is one of Seacliff’s favourite gathering spots, where Daisy serves up good food, hot drinks and an even warmer welcome.
It is also the perfect place to catch up with friends, hear the latest local gossip, and occasionally stumble across a clue that nobody meant to share.
On stormy days, waves crash dramatically against the rocky promontory that gives the Harbour its name; on calm ones, the sea glitters invitingly and the hills bloom with wildflowers. The lighthouse up by the cliffs is a local point of interest and so is the bookshop ‘The Dog-Eared Chapter’.
THE CROOKED LANTERN PUB
The Crooked Lantern is Seacliff’s traditional harbour pub, a cosy place for a pint, a chat and the sort of local gossip that travels faster than the tide.
Run by Tom Carter, it is where friends meet, visitors settle in, and more than a few useful secrets have been overheard over the years.
